About Unique Boards
Our History
We are a small family run business based in the Roman Village of Ribchester in Lancashire’s beautiful Ribble Valley. We produced our first boards in Dec 2017 as a present for a family member. Over the years many people commented on the boards and asked where they could acquire one. Through encouragement from friends and family, we now have a small facility producing a range of unique hand made boards for food preparation and presentation or just decoration....
Our Timber
Our timber is all locally sourced mostly as remnants from woodyards, boatyards and farms. Our range currently consists of Oak, Ash, Sycamore, Yew, Elm, Olive Ash, Sweet Chestnut, Iroko and Black Walnut.
We do not use any wood stains or other man made products on our boards. Our carefully selected oils and waxes are 100% natural organic. The oils and wax enhance the textures of the board, enable bark retention and ensure no contamination of food products or harbouring of bacterial growth. As such our boards are all ethical, cruelty free and vegan friendly.
Our Process
Once a rough board is selected, our production process is all by hand. Each board is planed and sanded until the desired finish is achieved. Multiple coats of oil are applied with a final wax sealing coat if applicable. Depending on the type of wood and the designated use of the board, suitable handles and cushion feet may be added.
No two pieces of our timber are the same thus creating entirely Unique Boards. On completion each finished board is identified with a small copper placque attached to the rear side detailing the YOM (Year of Manufacture), YOT (approximate age of the tree) and the Type of Wood.
All boards are supplied with care instructions and a sample of the oil and wax used.
